Just completed,
'Vlad has a nap'

This adorable creation started with the hind wings from the ethically sourced beetle pictured in a previous post. (Hind wings are the soft folded wings protected by the beetles' hard outer fore-wings)
They look like tiny bat wings with their peaked edges and visible vein structure, so I set them onto a tiny bat..and named him Vlad.

Vlads little bat body is crafted from cast pewter and he's suspended upside down,  taking a nap under tiny natural dried tree 'branches' amongst shimmering silver stars and a crescent moon.

I have securely set the branches emerging from under a beautifully detailed dome crafted from a repurposed, vintage tibetan silver piece.
A long glass tube seals and protects this enchanting , 'old world' scene.

I wanted Vlad to have some movement so he is set onto a hidden loop so that he sways just as if he is in a breeze.
I love how this creation really does look like a real miniature bat.

The pretty chain is an extra long, 70cm vintage rope style chain that can be doubled over or worn long, and the pendant length is 6cm.
